Three Tips To Hydrate Dry Hands And Feet

A healthy and glowing face with a dry and dehydrated body screams a lack of care. Unfortunately, I’ve been there and done that many times in my misspent youth. Lol,  I’ll chop it up to the laziness,  but now that I know better I do better; and alongside the gifts of age and wisdom surely comes aging. Yes, the dreaded aging will happen to us all.  Yet, how gracefully we age is ultimately determined by how well we take care of ourselves.   I once spent significantly more time and care on pampering my face while not giving my hands, feet, arms and legs the love they deserve. But it’s never too late, and I’m loving the results I’m seeing after some time incorporating a more consistent regime.

Beauty regimes aren’t quick-fixes,  they are a series of small steps you must consistently incorporate into your daily life for long-term maintenance.

  • Protection– There’s more to nail-biting than just bad manners when you bite your nails or pull at the cuticle, it dries skin out. Also, cleansing detergents run havoc on our skin period, from the drying agents which over time lead to dry, cracked and coarse hands. Believe me, I know- not exactly the look we’re going for. To counter unnecessary dryness,  wear gloves while doing dishes, cleaning the house, and engaging in other chores that expose your hands to drying agents, or chemicals.
  • Exfoliate- It’s a habit for us to exfoliate our face, but make it a priority to exfoliate your body at least once a week, on a good week, I exfoliate two to three times. Exfoliating helps or body in the removal of dead skin which in turn gives our skin the healthy glow we love.  Always opt for a gentle. I swap between a  Dermatoligca’s exfoliating body scrub and a homemade one. When I opt for an all-natural exfoliating scrub I mix a 1/4 cup of brown sugar with 3-4 drops of lavender, rosemary, or lemongrass oil. If you’re going with a different scrub, check out the ingredients and choose one with natural, hydrating and gentle ingredients. Don’t exfoliate every day, give your skin time to naturally go through its skin renewal process.
  • Moisturize- No, rubbing the leftover product after moisturizing your face does not count, although it is a good idea. Either use my recipe for natural hydrating moisturizer or invest in a rich hand lotion to moisturize your hands and legs at least twice a day. Moisturizing is non-negotiable when you’re fresh out of the shower and headed to bed. While we sleep our bodies work hard to restore balance to all its organs, including our skin. By applying moisture to your skin immediately after showering you ensure better product penetration. When I’m not using my natural hydrating moisturizer, I   love massaging raw coconut oil onto my damp skin, it has great penetration and the oil absorbs very easily.

Often, symptoms of certain health issues or diseases show up first on your skin, so never take an adverse sign lightly. In addition to these beauty tips, pay attention to the amount of water you drink, with the goal of drinking a minimum 64 ounces a day. Personally, I increase my water intake during the winter months as well as when I’m stepping up my time in the gym.  While your efforts to protect your skin will reward you triple fold, don’t underestimate the benefits of staying hydrated inside out.
